The University

How the University works

  • The “University of Northwest Europe” with legal seat in Kerkrade, Netherlands is an associative body with legal personality under Dutch law. The Association is the holding body of the University and represents the University legally.
  • In Accordance with the Association Statutes the Administrative Council of the Association authorized the intellectual creator of the project to establish the University under an autonomous University Statute. and bestowed on him the title of President Founder which is an honorary post, and the University Council was enacted under this statute.
  • The University Council is the supreme body of the University, and acts through the Council’s Executive Board which is presided by the Provost of the University. The University Council decides how the University is run, and has overall executive and strategic powers.
  • The Chancellor and the Vice Chancellor of the University help the Provost in operating the University towards all strategic and future goals.
  • The University Council advises the Chancellor and Vice Chancellor on key issues.
  • The areas of education and research are managed under the Office of the Rector who is assisted by several Vice Rectors to assist him in the educational management and supervision of the University’s programmes at the International Campus and at several outreach locations.
  • The International Campus of the University with its administrative seat in Kerkrade is under management control of a Dean of Administration who attends the university’s affairs in the Netherlands. Currently, the International Campus houses several distinct schools and Institutes under which all curricula, specializations, key faculty staff and auxiliary teaching staff are placed, and under whose leadership and responsibility all research projects are operated.
  • Further Administrative and Support Departments are located at the International Campus and help staff and students in day to day matters.
