Doctoral Admission Requirements

University Degree at Advanced Master's Level or foreign recognised equivalent. First university or college degrees, i.e. Bachelor, Diploma, a first State examination or a professional examination will not suffice.

A formal letter or attestation from the university or authority from the state where the degree was obtained, stating that the applicant's degree entitles him for doctoral studies in that state must be provided. (Not applicable to students from EU / European Economic Area countries.)

A three to five years professional experience, on the job training, practical training skills are highly recommended. Continuing education may be considered as substitute.

English or French proficiency is required. Under special circumstances this requirement may be waived, if the cooperating university or the chair accept the candidate, his research proposal, papers and dissertations in another language. In this case, an English or French proficiency examination is required.

At least the knowledge in one further European language (English excluded) must be proven.

Two letters of reference, or two academic references to be named, attesting the candidate's capability for research work.

A brief research proposal including major areas of work for the planned dissertation.

In addition to admission requirements, all students are expected to possess certain basic professional academic skills. These include fundamental computer skills and the word processing, editing and printing functions of a standard computer programme. An email address or regular access to a fax machine and Internet are required.
